Klipsch la scala limited edition
Klipsch has made only 70 pairs each of its Cornwall and La Scala models as part of its 70th Anniversary Heritage Series, and only one pair of each is available for sale in Australia. These limited-edition models were made by hand at Klipsch’s manufacturing facility in Hope, Arkansas, and feature an Australian Walnut wood veneer, a silver-lustre grille cloth, ‘Special Edition’ badging and a signature 70th Anniversary plaque identifying its numbered sequence in the series. Nothing at all to do with the English county of the same name, the Cornwall got its name from being the first Klipsch loudspeaker designed to operate from either a corner or against a wall (corn(er)/wall). It’s a threeway design using horn-loaded compression drivers for the midrange and treble and a direct-radiating 381mm (15-inch) bass driver for the low frequencies.
The Klipsch La Scala was originally designed by audio pioneer and company founder Paul W. Klipsch as a ‘portable’ public address speaker for Arkansas gubernatorial candidate Winthrop Rockefeller’s 1963 campaign. Many Klipsch fans thought the La Scala a more affordable version of the much larger and more expensive Klipschorn and ordered it for use in their living rooms. ‘ The La Scala brings the most subtle musical details to life, always delivering the legendary Klipsch sound with clarity and ease,’ said Shelden Walker of Powermove, which distributes Klipsch in Australia. ‘ And because it’s so enormously efficient, able to generate 105dBSL from just one single watt of amplifier power, the La Scala will delight listeners using even the most modestly-powered amplifiers, and will especially appeal to the SET set.’
