KeF ls50 Goes Wireless

-

KEF’s award-winning LS50 loudspeakers are now available in a fully active, wireless version. The new LS50 Wireless speakers have the same drivers and cabinet as the original LS50 speakers but add a 192kHz/24bit digital signal path, a dedicated DAC per channel, a streaming pre-amp, time-correcting DSP crossover and dual amplifiers: a 200-watt amp for the bass driver and a 30-watt amp for the tweeter. ‘ Eliminating the passive crossover and using dedicated amplifiers for each driver has taken the incredible awardwinning sound of Uni-Q to the next level,’ said Michael Di Meglio, of Advance Audio, which distributes KEF. ‘ Replicating this system using traditional hi-fi components would typically cost at least double.’

Multiple connection possibilities are built in, including 2.4GHz/5GHz dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 with aptX codec, asynchronous USB, plus digital and analogue inputs. There’s also a subwoofer output. An LS50 app can be used to enhance the user experience, enable music streaming and playback and has customisable eq. settings. The LS50’sFEA-designed cabinet, Uni-Q driver, constrained layer damping bracing, precision-made curved baffle and the elliptical flexible sound port are all retained on the LS50 Wireless. ‘ These features prevent cabinet vibrations, enhance the radiated sound and reduce resonances and colouration,’ said Di Meglio. ‘ In this new LS50 Wireless, KEF has developed a complete, fully-active system that retains all the acoustic features and benefits of LS50 with everything built-in to allow a multitude of connectivity needs… in other words a complete, fully-active music system, which just happens to look like a pair of LS50s.’ Available now the KEF LS50 Wireless comes in three colour options: Titanium Grey/Red; Gloss Black/Blue; and Gloss White/Copper, all at the same price: $3,799 (RRP) per pair.
