BeyerDynamic, the German company best-known for its professional headphones, has released a model designed specifically for domestic use, the Amiron home. As with the professional models, the Amiron home uses Tesla drivers, but the company says they have been refined for use in the Amiron home. ‘ Modifications to the transducer have diminished unwanted vibrations to an absolute minimum and completely eliminated annoying treble resonances,’ said Wayne Farran of Syntec, which distributes BeyerDynamic in Australia. ‘ The placement of an additional fabric in front of the multilayer compound calotte reduces highfrequency resonances. In addition, the acoustic transducers are damped on the rear to ensure an even more balanced midrange response and a new ear pad filling material used to increase bass precision. All in all, this adds up to a warm, stress-free sound with fascinating spaciousness—as intoxicating as a live concert.’

BeyerDynamic rates the Amiron Home headphones with a frequency response of 5Hz to 40kHz, a nominal impedance of 250Ω and a nominal sensitivity of 102dB (1mW/500Hz). ‘ Thanks to the 250-ohm impedance and their high sensitivity the Amirons are perfectly suited for use with high-quality hi-fi systems, headphone amplifiers or desktop systems, but deliver high-enough sound pressure levels even when driven by a phone or tablet to enable music fans to enjoy high-fidelity sound anywhere,’ Farran told Australian Hi-Fi Magazine. ‘ Simply slip them on and become immediately immersed in the music, because these headphones will send shivers down the spine and convey the sense of being right there at the concert or club.’ Available now, the BeyerDynamic Amiron headphones sell for $999 (RRP).
