MAGICO INTRODUCES A3

Australian HIFI - - SOUNDBITES -

Magico has released its A3 loudspeaker, which it claims brings together a bevy of technologies unheard-of at its price point including a fully braced anodised aluminium enclosure, a beryllium tweeter and drivers with carbon nanographene cones. The Magico A3 is a floor-standing, four-driver, three-way design housed in an enclosure made entirely from 6061 T6 aircraft grade aluminium that’s internally braced and finished externally with a brushed anodised aluminium ‘skin’. The system uses two 178mm-diameter bass drivers that have Magico’s ‘Gen 8 Tec cones’, underhung neodymium magnets and 75mm titanium voice coils. The midrange driver is said to be newly developed by Magico for use in the A3 and has a 152mm diameter carbon fibre cone with a layer of XG Nanographene, an overhung neodymium-based motor system and a 75-mm diameter pure titanium voice coil.

The 28mm dome tweeter has a pure beryllium-diaphragm and is based on Magico’s M-Project tweeter. It has a neodymium motor system encased in an improved back chamber, and according to Peter Mackay of Magico: ‘ has our latest generation damping materials that facilitate ultra-low distortion, higher power handling, massive dynamic capabilities and extended linear voice coil movement.’ The A3’s crossover network uses state-of-the-art components from Mundorf of Germany and has 24dB/octave slopes. ‘ The Linkwitz-Riley filter maximises frequency bandwidth while preserving phase linearity and minimizing intermodulation distortion,’ said Mackay.

Magico specs the frequency range of the A3 at 22Hz–50kHz, the efficiency at 88dBSPL and the nominal impedance at 4 .‘ At long last Magico has developed a loudspeaker that’s obtainable for a wider audience,’ said Boris Granovsky, of Absolute Hi End, which distributes Magico in Australia. ‘ Now more audiophiles can get into Magico at a more affordable price.’ In Australia, the Magico A3 loudspeakers will retail for around $14,000 per pair.
