ILL NATURED

Twisted Visions (Last Ride)

Australian HIFI - - TOP PICKS -

Newcastle’s Ill Natured have been brandishing their belligerent blasts of burly breakdowns for the better part of this decade. Only now, however, have they pulled the trigger on their debut LP. Such a build-up would give one the impression that the five-piece have been waiting to make this one count—and upon listening to ‘Twisted Visions’, you’d be right. It’s a half-hour of power that makes good use of the band’s key strengths—the mercilessly heavy guitars; the unmitigated anger in its vocals. It also marks the distance between their early days and their current state, as sting-in-the-tail closer Skeletons will attest. Sounding more like Type O Negative than Terror, the song is emblematic of a desire to progress and expand. Such ambition is surprisingly rare among Australian bands of this ilk.
