MONITOR AUDIO STUDIO LOUDSPEAKERS

-

Monitor Audio’s newly released Studio loudspeakers follow the new trend of ‘grille-less’ design, so there’s nothing to impede or disperse the sound from the drivers, and the drivers themselves are an eye-catching focal point of the industrial design. ‘ Monitor Audio’s new Studio is a highend loudspeaker that features unique design features and technologies found in the company’s flagship Platinum II series such that it offers absolute performance from strikingly compact cabinets,’ said Sam Encel, of Interdyn, which distributes Monitor Audio in Australia. ‘ The shape of the cabinet and the configuration of the drivers have been designed with the sole inten- tion of delivering the most faithful sound reproduction possible.’

The Monitor Audio Studio design sees two 200mm-diameter metallic-silver-coned RDT II drivers operating in parallel before crossing over to an air motion tweeter Monitor Audio variously calls a ‘honeycomb’, ‘micro pleated diaphragm’ or ‘MPD’ design. The two coned drivers are similar to the drivers used as midrange drivers in the Platinum PL500 II, but have been modified to operate as true bass/midrange drivers. The RDT II cones are housed in a bespoke cast polymer chassis which improves rigidity and damping characteristics. ‘ Micro-pleated diaphragm tweeters provide incredible articulation due to the low mass of their diaphragms,’ said Encel. ‘ They produce a smooth, wide, naturally fast frequency response that extends ‘way into the ultrasonic region and as a result, the sound is more life-like and able to deliver all the highest harmonics.’

The Monitor Audio Studio cabinet is a bass-reflex type, using two rear-mounted HiVe II ports, one at the top of the cabinet and the other at the bottom. Monitor Audio says that using two ports spaced in this manner ensures the pressure inside the cabinet is symmetri- cally balanced and that there is no turbulence or noise caused by air movement though the port. ‘ Monitor Audio’s HiVe II technology ensures air moves in and out much more quickly than it does through a conventional port, resulting in fast, powerful bass coupled with superior transient response,’ says Encel.

The Monitor Audio Studio’s two-way crossover network uses highgrade polypropylene film capacitors and both air-cored and laminated steel-core inductors. The rear panel speaker terminals are rhodium plated to provide low contact resistance. The Monitor Audio Studio speakers are available in a satin black, white or grey finishes and optional bespoke floor stands are available for use with them. Available now, the Monitor Audio Studios sell for $2,549 (RRP) per pair. For more information, contact Interdyn on (03) 9426 3600 or at the company’s website at www.interdyn.com.au
