Power In The Darkness: Live At The 100 Club
Has Mr Robinson mellowed since his days of activism, given his current latenight BBC DJ status? Not so, judging from his rant during the title track of this rollicking recent performance of TRB’s full 1978 debut album plus encores; indeed the blood rises at the passion of performance throughout this 2017 club performance, the crowd in his hand through both the music and his humorous interstitials. It’s a great recording of a great performance, blasting out the power pop-riot of Up Against The Wall, raising hairs high on the brilliant then-futurism of Winter of ‘79, eliciting laughter then tears in the encores of Martin and an updated Glad To Be Gay, before original guitarist Danny Kustow joins a cathartic closing 2-4-6-8 Motorway. A mere seven quid purchases the 24-bit/48kHz files via Bandcamp; run the whole gig as loud as you can. It’s like you’re there.
