John Curl, one of the world’s most respected audio engineers, has been engaged to work as a technical consultant for British sister companies iFi Audio and AMR (Abbingdon Music Research). Curl designed the legendary JC-2 preamplifier for Mark Levinson (his initials forming part of the model number) in the early 1970s and then the Levinson ML-2 Class-A power amplifier. Since that time he has created many designs for high-end audio companies including Wilson Audio and Jeff Rowland. ‘ Curl is unquestionably one of a small band of engineers whose influence is so great it has altered the direction of audio design,’ said Vincent Luke, Sales Director at iFi Audio/AMR: ‘ We are excited to have the opportunity to add John’s exceptional expertise to our talented team of technical designers, led by design director Thorsten Loesch. His insights will help us to further raise the sonic bar with products from both iFi and AMR—from portable and desktop audio to the very finest hi-end hi-fi components, we will continue to push the boundaries of design, functionality and performance.’ The first products to feature Curl’s input are iFi’s new ‘Zen’ range of desktop audio products after which will be a range of new high-end components from AMR, all due for launch in 2020.
