From the Desk of Len

-

Anyone can recognise good sound when they hear it, but you have to be able to hear it in the first place!

It has been a very constructive few months for Len Wallis Audio. Amid all the recent disruption we have taken the opportunity to have a look at our offerings, and in some areas, found we came up short. This has prompted us to add several new products to our range, in some cases additional models from our tried and respected existing brands — and in some cases new brands entirely.

One positive impact the pandemic has had on our industry is that people are taking the opportunity to spend more time with their music. This is not only evident in the ever-increasing number of people investing in vinyl (particularly among the younger generations), but with a very marked return to two-channel systems. Our industry has been dominated by Audio Visual (Home Theatre) offerings for many years — but as we move towards the easy option of sound bars it has become increasingly obvious that musical reproduction has been compromised.

The return to two-channel is not only by our traditional buyers, but a whole new market has opened, many of them buying systems for the first time. There is a vast percentage of the population who have grown up with an almost unlimited source of music — mostly consisting of compressed music through a pair of earbuds. While this system of delivery leaves a lot to be desired it has served to expose this market to an endless catalogue of music. All that was needed was for this market to experience this music the way the artist intended, and this is now taking place.
