The design approach

-

In overhauling her 1940s cottage, Lillian shifted the main bedroom and its ensuite from the front of the house into the space occupied by the dining room at the rear. “As the bathroom – and the whole house – is all white, I wanted tiles that offered a little colour and texture,” she says. Star feature of the bathroom is its Victoria+Albert Barcelona bath. “I love its curves; they soften the bathroom’s harder lines.” The bath is set beneath a skylight and by stacking doors, which reinforces the ensuite’s indoor-outdoor connection. The vanity is custom-made in Princess White marble – “I wanted a stone with little ‘movement’” – and the walls are tiled with a simple matt-white rectified tile. “They’re deliberately understated to allow the other elements of the bathroom to shine.” >
