2016 HODDLES CREEK ESTATE PINOT NOIR, $22 A fragrant, varietally expressive pinot from Victoria’s Yarra Valley, characterised by strawberries, herbal tones and gentle leafiness. Fabulous value. 2015 MOUNT HORROCKS NERO D’AVOLA, $36 A captivating Sicilian variety, made by a top Clare Valley producer, with hints of nectarine, perfumed orange peel and stewed plums. The medium-bodied palate is lively, with delicious sour-cherry flavours.
2014 DUKE’S MAGPIE HILL SHIRAZ, $35 Think red and black berries, with pepper and a hint of charcuterie, too. Cool-climate shiraz at its best, from Porongurup in Western Australia.
2015 MASSENA THE ELEVENTH HOUR, $40 This one is a stunning example of contemporary Barossa shiraz, displaying mulberry, anise, dark chocolate and papery tannins.
