1Think

vertically. Build your wardrobe from bottom to top, keeping things you use more often in the bottom to middle zone .Keep room at the top to store out-of-season clothes so you can maximise space in the middle zone. You can never have enough storage!

2Break

it down. Do you need a whole new wardrobe or could you just update part of it? Whether it’s new doors, new shelves or new drawers, there’s plenty of ways to give your wardrobe a makeover without spending a fortune.

3Storage

on the move. Renting doesn’t mean you have to compromise on storage or tidiness. There are plenty of great customised wardrobe options that can be easily disassembled and moved to your new home if you are relocating.

4Mirror

mirror says it all. Whether it’s a mirrored door or a mirror on the inside of a door, including this in your planning is essential. If you want to keep it subtle, plan one for the visible side panel of a wardrobe if it doesn’t suit the inside of a door.

Consider interchangeable rail heights to adapt to changing fashion and storage needs.

“Keep exposed shelves and storage solutions curated and neat – save the messy stuff for behind closed doors.”

SHANNON VOS, INTERIOR DESIGNER 9Don’t

forget corners. If you’re installing a new wardrobe but don’t have a big wall area, consider a corner wardrobe. With some clever design you can still have the same amount of space that you would have if it was in one staight line.

10Build

it in. If you’re renovating, you can get smart with your budget by building a custom wardrobe recess in the initial build but using flatpack solutions to finish the interiors and doors. Designing it around pre-existing flat pack sizes will help keep it on budget.
