YARN
• 1 ball 50gm each of 6 colours Panda Regal 4ply Cotton
C1 – Jade, C2 – yellow, C3 – purple C4 – blue, C5 – pink, C6 – aqua
• 2 balls 50g M – Black
NEEDLES AND TOOLS
• 3.00mm crochet hook • wool sewing needle
MEASUREMENTS
Size: 24cm wide x 28cm deep
SPECIAL ABBREVIATION
Puff St = * yoh, draw up a lp in next st to a height of 1.5cm, rep from * twice more in the same st, yoh and draw through all 7 lps on hook.
TENSION
One motif measures 7.5cm across, using 3.00mm hook.
GETTING STARTED MOTIF a (Make 4)
Using 3.00mm hook and C1, make 5ch and join with a sl st to form a ring.
Round 1: 5ch, (1dtr in ring, 1ch) 11 times, sl st in 4th ch at beg. Fasten off.
Join C4 with a sl st in any ch sp. Round 2: 3ch, (Puff St, 1ch) twice in same ch sp, (Puff St, 1ch) twice in each ch sp to end, sl st in top of first Puff St. Fasten off.
Join C3 with a sl st in any ch sp.
Round 3: 6ch, 1dtr in same ch sp, 1ch, 1tr in next ch sp, (1ch, 1htr in next ch sp) 3 times, 1ch, 1tr in next ch sp, 1ch, * (1dtr, 2ch, 1dtr) in next ch sp, 1ch, 1tr in next ch sp, (1ch,
1htr in next ch sp) 3 times, 1ch, 1tr in next ch sp, 1ch, rep from * to end, sl st in 4th ch at beg. Fasten off.
Join M with a sl st in turning ch lp. Round 4: 1ch, (1dc, 3ch, 1dc) in turning ch lp, (1ch, 1dc in next ch sp) 6 times, 1ch, * (1dc, 3ch, 1dc) in next 2ch sp, (1ch, 1dc in next ch sp) 6 times, 1ch, rep from * to end, sl st in first dc. Fasten off.
MOTIF B (Make 4)
Work as for Motif A using C2 for round 1, C1 for round 2 and M for rounds 3 and 4.
MOTIF C (Make 4)
Work as for Motif A using C3 for round 1, C5 for round 2, C4 for round 3 and M for round 4.
MOTIF D (Make 4)
Work as for Motif A using M for round 1, C4 for round 2, C1 for round 3 and M for round 4.
MOTIF e (Make 2)
Work as for Motif A using C5 for round 1, M for round 2, C4 for round 3 and M for round 4.
WORKING PATTERN SIDES OF BAG
Using a flat seam, sew motifs into 6 strips of 3 motifs each as desired.
Note: When changing colours, use new colour to work final lp of last st in previous colour.
With right side facing, using 3.00mm hook and M, work 1 row dc along upper edge of 1st strip.
Working in tr fabric work 2 rows
C6, then 2 rows C4, (inc or dec if necessary to keep work flat).
Using M, work 1 row dc.
Fasten off.
Using a flat seam, attach 2nd strip to last row of dc.
With right side facing, using 3.00mm hook and M, and working along opposite edge of 2nd strip, work 1 row dc.
Working in tr fabric work 2 rows
C5, then 2 rows C4, (inc or dec if necessary to keep work flat).
Using M, work 1 row dc.
Fasten off.
Using a flat seam, attach 3rd strip to last row of dc.
With right side facing, using 3.00mm hook and M, work 1 round of treble around all edges of bag side, working 5tr at corners, sl st in turning ch. Fasten off.
Join rem 3 strips together as above for other side of Bag.
STRAP
Using 3.00mm hook and M, make 12ch.
Row 1: Miss 1ch, 1dc in each of first 5ch, 3dc in next ch, 1dc in each of next 5ch. 13dc.
Design note: Work into back lp only for rem of strap.
Row 2: 1ch, miss first dc, 1dc in each of next 5dc, 3dc in next dc, 1dc in each of next 5dc, turn. 13dc.
Last row forms patt for rem of Band. Work 2 more rows.
Working in 4 row stripes of C1, C2, C3, C5, C4 and M, cont until side edge of band is approx 185cm long, ending with a complete stripe.
Fasten off.
With right side facing, using 3.00mm hook and M, work 1 row dc evenly along each long side of strap.
Fasten off.
MAKING UP
Using a flat seam, sew foundation ch of strap to final row of strap. With wrong sides together, placing seam at centre of lower edge of Bag Side and using 3.00mm hook and M, attach strap by working 1 row dc through both thicknesses evenly around 3 sides of bag. Fasten off. Attach other side of bag in same manner.
