MEASUREMEN­TS

Size: 2-5, 6-10

To hand: 12, 15cm

Beanie to fit head: 52,54cm Scarf: 10cm x 150cm

TENSION

Mitts – 27.5 sts by 37 rows over stocking st on 3.25mm needles to 10cm.

Scarf – 68 sts by 34 rows over 4 x 4 rib relaxed on 4.00mm needles to 10cm.

Beanie – 26 sts by 35 rows over stocking st on 3.75mm needles to 10cm.

Using set of 2.75mm double-pointed needles and C1, cast on 36 (40) sts and divide as evenly as possible between 3 needles. Join to work in rounds, taking care not to twist cast on edge.

Round 1: * K2, P2, rep from * to end. Rep 1st round 4 (6) times.

Using C2, rep 1st round 5 (7) times. Using C1, rep 1st round 5 (7) times, dec 2 sts evenly in last round. 34

(38) sts.

Change to set of 3.25mm doublepoin­ted needles and M for rem. **

Round 1: M1, K2, M1, knit to end of round.

Knit 3 rounds.

Round 5: M1, K4, M1, knit to end. Knit 3 rounds.

Round 9: M1, K6, M1, knit to end. Cont inc in this manner (working 2 extra sts between inc) in every foll 4th round until there are 42 (48) sts.

Knit 3 rounds.

Prepare for Thumb

Round 1: Using a scrap length of

C1 or C2 – (K2tog) 4 (5) times, slip these 4 (5) sts back onto left-hand needle, using M knit these sts again, then knit to end of round. 38 (43) sts. Work 11 (13) rounds.

Work First Finger

Next Round: K5 (6), slip next 27 (31) sts onto another scrap length of C1 or C2 and leave for rem fingers, turn, cast on 2 sts, turn, K6. 13 (14) sts.

Divide these sts as evenly as possible between 3 needles and cont as folls – Knit 4 rounds.

Cast off loosely.

Work Second Finger

With right side facing, knit across first 5 sts from thread, turn, cast on 2 sts, turn, knit last 5 (6) sts from thread, knit up 2 sts from cast on sts at base of first finger. 14 (15) sts.

Divide these sts as evenly as possible between 3 needles and cont as folls – Knit 4 rounds.

Cast off loosely.

Work Third Finger

With right side facing, knit across first 4 (5) sts from thread, turn, cast on 2 sts, turn, knit last 4 (5) sts from thread, knit up 2 sts from cast on sts at base of second finger. 12 (14) sts. Divide these sts as evenly as possible between 3 needles and cont as folls – Knit 4 rounds.

Cast off loosely.

Work Fourth Finger

With right side facing, knit across rem 9 (10) sts from thread, knit up 2 sts from cast on sts at base of third finger. 11 (12) sts.

Divide these sts as evenly as possible between 3 needles and cont as folls – Knit 4 rounds.

Cast off loosely.

Work Thumb

Carefully unpick scrap yarn stitch by stitch, placing the 8 (10) sts from lower side of thumb opening on one needle and the 3 (4) sts from upper side on another needle. 11 (14) sts. Divide these sts as evenly as possible between 3 needles, rejoin yarn at beg of lower sts and cont as folls –

Round 1: K8 (10) (lower sts), knit up one st at side of thumb opening, K3 (4) (upper sts), knit up one st at other side of thumb opening. 13 (16) sts. Knit 4 rounds.

Cast off loosely.

LEFT MITT

Work as given for Right Mitt to **.

Round 1: Knit to last 2 sts, M1, K2, M1.

Knit 3 rounds.

Round 5: Knit to last 4 sts, M1, K4, M1.

Knit 3 rounds.

Round 9: Knit to last 6 sts, M1, K6, M1.

Cont inc in this manner (working 2 extra sts between inc) in every foll 4th round until there are 42 (48) sts.

Knit 3 rounds.

Prepare for Thumb

Round 1: Knit to last 8 (10) sts, then using a scrap length of C1 or C2 – (K2tog) 4 (5) times, slip these 4 (5) sts back onto left-hand needle, then using M, knit these 4 (5) sts. 38 (43) sts.

Knit 11 (13) rounds.

Work First Finger

Next round: K6, slip next 27 (31) sts onto another scrap length of C1 or C2 and leave for rem fingers, turn, cast on 2 sts, turn, K5 (6). 13 (14) sts.

Divide these sts as evenly as possible between 3 needles and complete as given for First Finger of Right Mitt.

Work Second Finger

With right side facing, knit across first 5 (6) sts from thread, turn, cast on 2 sts, turn, knit last 5 sts from thread, knit up 2 sts from cast on sts at base of first finger. 14 (15) sts.

Divide these sts as evenly as possible between 3 needles and complete as given for Second Finger of Right Mitt.

Work Third Finger

With right side facing, knit across first 4 (5) sts from thread, turn, cast on 2 sts, turn, knit last 4 (5) sts from thread, knit up 2 sts from cast on sts at base of second finger. 12 (14) sts. Divide these sts as evenly as possible

between 3 needles and complete as given for Third Finger of Right Mitt.

Work Fourth Finger

With right side facing, knit across rem 9 (10) sts from thread, knit up 2 sts from cast on sts at base of third finger. 11 (12) sts.

Divide these sts as evenly as possible between 3 needles and complete as given for Fourth Finger of Right Mitt.

Work Thumb

Work as given for Thumb of Right Mitt.

MAKING UP

With a slightly damp cloth and warm iron, press lightly. Sew in ends.

SCARF

Using 4.00mm needles and M, cast on 68 sts.

Row 1: K4, * P4, K4, rep from * to end. Row 2: P4, * K4, P4, rep from * to end. Last 2 rows form rib.

Work a further 48 rows.

Beg Stripe Patt

Change to C1, work 10 rows. Change to C2, work 10 rows. Change to C1, work 10 rows. Change to M, work 50 rows. Last 80 rows form stripe patt. Rep last 80 rows 4 times. Cast off loosely in rib.

MAKING UP

Do not press. Sew in ends.

BEANIE

Using set of 3.75mm double-pointed needles and M, cast on 124 (132) sts and divide as evenly as possible between 3 needles. Join to work in rounds, taking care not to twist cast on edge.

Round 1: * K2, P2, rep from * to end. Rep 1st round 7 (11) times. 8 (12) rounds rib in all.

Keeping rib correct, work 4 rounds

C1, 4 rounds C2 and 4 rounds C1. Work 8 (12) rounds M.

Work 4 rounds C1, 4 rounds C2 and 4 rounds C1.

Shape Crown

Note – Rem of Beanie is worked in rows, not rounds.

** Working rem in M, 1st row – Rib 31 (33), turn.

Cont on these 31 (33) sts for first section of crown.

Keeping rib correct, dec one st at each end of every row until 5 sts rem.

Leave sts on a thread or safety pin, break off yarn. **

With right side facing, join M to rem sts and rep from ** to ** for each rem 3 sections of crown.

MAKING UP

Do not press. Join four crown seams. Run a thread through sts rem at top of all sections, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.

Sew in ends.
