Cowl:
• 4.5mm circular needle of 80cm length • Stitch marker

Beanie – Band circumference approx 51cm
Cowl –- circumference approx 114cm
SPECIAL ABBREVIATIONS
M1 – pick up running thread from front to back, k it through the back loop psso – pass slipped stitch over skp – slip 1 stitch, knit 1 stitch, pass the slipped stitch over
TENSION
Beanie: 22 sts by 28 rows over Stst on 4mm needles to 10cm
Cowl: 18 sts over Openwork Rib Pattern on 4.5mm needles to 10cm
WORKING PATTERN SUMMER BEANIE
With size 3.75mm cast on 108 sts, join to round, ensure not to twist, mark beg of round.
ROUND 1: RS – *K1, p1; rep from * to end.
Rep this round for 6 more rounds. Change to 4mm circular or double pointed needles.
BEG MAIN PATTERN
ROUNDS 1 AND 2: RS – Knit.
ROUND 3: *K7, yo, skp, k1, k2tog, yo; rep from * to end.
ROUND 4: Knit.
ROUND 5: *K8, yo, slip 1-k2tog-psso, yo, k1; rep from * to end.
ROUNDS 6, 7 AND 8: Knit.
ROUND 9: *K1, yo, skp, k1, k2tog, yo, k6; rep from * to end.
ROUND 10: Knit.
ROUND 11: K2, yo, slip 1-k2tog-psso, yo, k7; rep from * to end.
ROUND 12: Knit.
Rep these 12 rounds twice more. Work rounds 1 and 2 of Main patt (hat measures approx 15.5cm from beg).

MAKING UP
Cut yarn leaving a long end; thread end on a tapestry needle and carefully draw through rem sts.
Pull tight ensure not to break yarn and fasten off. Sew in ends.
COWL
With 4.5mm circular needle, cast on 204 sts, join to round, ensure not to twist, mark beg of round.
ROUNDS 1 AND 2: RS - *K2, p2; rep from * to end.
BEG OPENWORK RIB PATTERN
ROUND 1: *Yo, skp, yo, p2tog; rep from * to end.
ROUNDS 2, 3, 4, 5 AND 6: *K2, p2; rep from * to end.
Rep these last 6 rounds for Openwork Rib patt until piece measures 13cm from beg, end with a round 3 of Openwork Rib patt. Cast off loosely (ensure cast-off has same stretch as cast-on round). Sew in ends.
