• Cowl – 4 balls 50gm Twilleys Freedom in shade 403 Deep Red

MEASUREMENTS
Beanie 51cm Cowl 84 x 24cm
TENSION
10 stitches by 14 rows over pattern using 10mm needles to 10 cm
WORKING PATTERN BEANIE HAT
Using 9.00mm needles cast on 55 sts.
ROW 1: RS - K2, * P3, K3, rep from * to last 5 sts, P3, K2.
ROW 2: P2, * K3, P3, rep from * to last 5 sts, K3, P2.
These 2 rows form rib patt.
Repeat last 2 rows once more.
Change to 10.00mm needles and keeping rib patt correct cont straight until work measures 23 cm from beg, ending with a WS row.
NEXT ROW: RS - K2, * P3tog, K3, rep from * to last 5 sts, P3tog, K2. 37 sts.
NEXT ROW: P2, * K1, P3, rep from * to last 3 sts, K1, P2.
NEXT ROW: K2 tog, * P1, K3tog, rep from * to last 3 sts, P1, K2tog. 19 sts.
NEXT ROW: P1, * K1, P1, rep from * to end.
NEXT ROW: K1, (K2tog) 9 times. 10 sts.
NEXT ROW: (P2tog) 5 times. 5 sts. Break off yarn and thread through remaining sts. Pull up tightly and fasten off.
MAKING UP.
Join side seam. Make a pompom and attach to top of hat.
RIBBED COWL
Using 10.00mm needles cast on 91 sts.
ROW 1: RS - K2, * P3, K3, rep from * to last 5 sts, P3, K2.
ROW 2: P2, * K3, P3, rep from * to last 5 sts, K3, P2.
These 2 rows form rib patt.
Cont in rib patt until work measures 24 cm ending with a WS row.
Cast off rib wise.
MAKING UP
Join side seams.
Make a plait 100 cm long and thread through cowl 2 cm down from cast off edge. Make two small pompoms and stitch securely onto ends of plait.
