REEF TO REEF

BETTER WITH FRIENDS

-

When you float over a gap, rail through a berm or clean a technical climb or rocky chute – who do you want to share that excitement with? Probably one of your riding buddies. Riding with friends is part of what fuels the stoke for mountain biking, and that dynamic is just a small part of what makes paired events a whole different beast to a normal mountain bike event.

The same people who have built Cape to Cape and spawned Port to Port are running their third 4-day mountain bike event, Reef to Reef, in the sunny and steamy climes of Tropical North Queensland. Given the popularity of paired races like the Cape Epic, The Pioneer and Swiss Epic, the northern cousin here in Australia has a paired category.

The idea is you need to stay within two minutes of your team mate, but in reality you want to be closer than that as you chase each other, follow lines, talk tactics and basically get each other through to the finish as fast as possible. And it means you have someone right on the finish line to share that postrace elation with, the highs, the lows, the near misses - everything!

Reef to Reef is also open to solo riders but we hear pairs is where the action is, and we’re convinced. From the opening paired time trial at Smithfield, to fast and drifty trails at Davies Creek, outback and rainforest trails at Mt Molloy and the iconic Bump Track down to Port Douglas, we can’t wait. Bring on 9-12 August.
