THE AMB PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS PRESENTED BY SHIMANO

In 2017 we had a huge range of amazing photos submitted from around the globe for the AMB Photography Awards. With new categories for 2018, the level lifted even higher.

Here they are – the winning photos for 2018. As voted by you for each category, and as selected by our very fussy and particular judges for the Photographer of the Year!

Photography is integral to what we do here at AustralianMountainBike magazine. We rely on photos that do more than just show a bike, a rider or a trail. We need photos that tell a story, that create an emotional response, and leave us wanting to find out more about the location, or ride our bikes, or get on the phone to call some mates and plan an epic day on the trail. The right photos make us more stoked on our sport, and we need to make sure that’s exactly what we put in our magazine.

When considering what categories to put in for the 2018 awards, we needed to think about what would create a category that anyone could enter, but something where a unique photo would truly stand out. We also wanted four diverse categories that would push a talented photographer’s skills to make a complete portfolio for their submission.

The folowing pages are the results - both from your voting for the categories, and our selection for the AMB Photographer of the Year. Having seen all the entries, knowing the quality of images that didn’t make the cut shows how strong the competition was this year.

Take a look through the images, and read what the winning photographers have to say about their photos, photography and the sport of mountain biking.

We need to say a big thank you to Shimano Australia for supporting this competition. It doies more than just allow us to showcase the winners and award some great prizes, but it brings a greater sense of awareness to the hardwork that mountain bike photographers do and how they capture our sport. Cheers for the support Shimano.
