WHYTE WASH FOR 2019

- whyte.bike

We got a sneak peek at the 2019 range of Whyte bikes late this year. While the British brand does a broad range of bikes, we cherry picked 5 that we think really suit Australian riding and trails. All bikes are single chainring specific which boosts back end stiffness and helps reduce chainstay length. Most bolt threads are replaceable, bearings have a lifetime warranty and in general the bikes are made to last for years, not just one season of riding.

The standout trail bike has to be the T-130 S, we have a review of the $4650 bike in this issue. The alloy T-130 S has the same geometry as the T-130 C-RS carbon model, sporting a slack head angle, steep seat angle, long reach and 37mm fork offset to keep handling tight. This 130mm bike seems perfect for Australian mountain bike parks.

We tested the S-150 last year, the carbon S-150 C-RS is a big-wheeled trail sled. The long reach marries to a 65.6 degree head angle and 42mm offset fork to keep this bike planted and stable while still agile and fun. The bike has been designed to take 27.5x2.8” wheels as well – all in it costs $6550.

The all-new Whyte S-120 C-RS carries the flame for the older T-129. With geometry inspired by the S-150, the light trail 29er uses a SRAM Eagle group set and Fox 34 SC in 44mm offset to keep this long and low 120mm travel bike moving fast on the trails up or down – it sells for $6500. We’re keen to get a leg over this one as on paper it looks like the fast trail bike we have been waiting for.

We love that the Whyte 405 will be in Australia. It’s a kids’ bike with 26” wheels, a 1x11 drivetrain, proper seat quick release and quality parts throughout, selling for $1759. It’s perfect to get your kid on the trail on a bike designed to ride well with parts that are made for mountain biking.
