DANNI BEECROFT

-

Sydney born and bred, Danni Beecroft has been a staple on the downhill scene for about 5 years. You might even remember a big story we did on Danni in early 2014. 2018 was a huge year for Danni, with a win at the Crankworx Whistler Dual Slalom – on her downhill bike.

While Thredbo isn’t in her backyard, Danni finds it the ideal place to ride and train in summer.

“Coming to Thredbo is perfect for me. I live in Sydney and we don’t have big mountains and big downhill tracks. This is really the only World Cup level Downhill track I can ride. It’s perfect for me to come here and smash laps, and use the lift to keep doing it all day!”

It’s easy to get the impression that Thredbo is only for riders wanting to train and compete – but Danni assures us that just about any mountain biker can have fun in Thredbo.

“There is so much for all levels here, and the lift helps with that. You can hire a bike, go up the mountain and have fun on the flow trail, or even the all-mountain trail. Plus there is the skatepark and pump track for kids to play around on too. There is so much on offer here, and I always have a lot of fun when I visit.”

“You don’t have to go hard on the trails, you don’t have to hit all the features. There are B lines that you can use to go around the big features, so it’s actually a good place for a wider variety of riders than some people think.”

Having just spent a summer in Whistler, we have to ask Danni – how does Thredbo compare?

“It’s in Australia!” she laughs. “You don’t have to pay for really expensive flights to get to Canada, and Thredbo doesn’t get as busy. Whistler gets smashed, it is absolutely packed all season long. So here in Thredbo you can get more runs in.” Danni is pretty matter of fact about it. Sure Whistler is amazing, but it is far cheaper to get to Thredbo, and it is way quieter too. Danni also thinks there are some things you just shouldn’t miss when visiting Thredbo.

“You have to do the flow trail if you come to Thredbo. That thing is fun for all levels of riders. 100%, you can’t miss it. But I would also say the all-mountain trail is a must do, as the view from up the top is just sensational. You can see for days and it’s just beautiful. I also think some people should really give the Cannonball run a shot, why not? Give them all a run!”

And Danni’s main tip for a visit to Thredbo to ride the trails? “Bring sunscreen and a smile.”
