KRUSH PRO BIKE DETAILING KIT

You are either the kind of rider who cleans their bike religiously and methodically, or you’re the rider with a noisy, dirty bike who wears things out quickly and breaks chains on group rides. I have probably given away which camp I fall into, and it means I have used a whole range of cleaning products over the years. From special formulas just for bikes, to cheap laundry liquids, hotel towels and toothbrushes – I’ve tried most products.

Krush came into the bike cleaning and detailing scene in 2016, and they are releasing the Pro Bike Detailing Kit as a bucket pack this January. It is a little different to their Krush Bike Care Bucket thanks to the inclusion of the Ultra Drivetrain Degreaser, which takes the place of the Premium Bike Wash. You still have the Foaming Rapid Wash, which is essentially a ready to go version of the Premium Bike Wash, so you’re not doing without. You know just have some strong degreaser in the bucket, along with some small, firm bristled brushes to scrub your drivetrain. There are also two sponges, a soft brush, a chamois and a microfibre cloth to use with the After Wash Bike Spray.

GET DOWN AND DIRTY

With a number of bikes in the shed, I’m often cleaning one or more to the point my neighbours probably wonder what my obsession is. With most of the Krush products on hand, I laid out four bikes I needed to wash. The Premium Bike Wash in the original bucket suits a full-on bucket wash. And that suits a really dirty bike. The Pro Bike Detailing Kit comes with the spray on Foaming Rapid Wash (which you can mix yourself with the Premium Bike Wash and a spray bottle) and the degreaser and drivetrain cleaner.

To be straight up, both options got my bike clean. You do need to hose your bike first for the spray on Foaming Rapid Wash to work best. And it’s not a spray on, hose off item. I would not want to use a product so strong that I could just spray it on and hose it off for a sparkling clean bike. Who knows what horrors it would do to the different materials on a bike! You still need to scrub, and the degreaser and brushes in the new detailing bucket really make your drivetrain shine. A degreaser was the missing link in the original bucket, for a truly clean bike.

I do prefer a bucket wash when things get really filthy, and I found for a drivetrain that was similarly filthy, using the degreaser in an inline chain cleaner got the best results. The scrubbing brushes help clean off jockey wheels, your chainring and in the cassette, but an inline chain cleaner does the chain the best.

As with the previous kit, the new kit also has the After Wash Spray. As it is silicone based it acts a little like a spray lubricant and a bit like a bike polish too. And that’s the idea. If you really want a super polish I think a bike polish still works better. But the After Wash Spray does very well and is very versatile. It’s no wonder that it is popular.

All said and done the kit is a great way to get started in looking after your bike, and detailing it to keep it dialled and running well. Mountain bikes can perform in a wide range of conditions, but they need a bit of TLC to keep on doing it time and again. Pair this kit up with some of the Premium Bike Wash, a few rags, an inline chain cleaner and your chain lube of choice and you have the ultimate tool to keep your bike looking great and working way better for longer too.
