If you have never been to a major mountainbike event, you owe it to yourself to make it a priority in the near future. Being in the one spot with so many keen mountainbikers, be they new to the sport or someone who lives and breathes knobby tyres.

The Cairns World Cup was a muddy, humid affair, but the vibe in the forest was infectious. The roar as riders came along the course, with people hanging from trees, snapping photos and waving cameras on sticks, has to be felt.

This issue covers a lot of competitive mountainbiking from Cairns to the National Enduro Series and the Real Insurance XCM Series. It’s worth remembering that you don’t need to be elite to take part in events. Along with being a member of a club, it’s a great way to meet people and discover new palces to ride. And seeing the top riders perform can be truly inspiring.

So enjoy the first winter issue, and enjoy the crisp temperatures out riding your bike.
