5. MAXXIS CYCLOCROSS TYRES
It’s winter, and even if that doesn’t mean much where you live, it does change riding habits for a lot of us. Cyclocross racing has been growing in Australia over the past years, with many strong local and state level events, and now a brilliant National Series. For a national level race, and some A Grade club events, you will need a dedicated ‘cross bike. But for others you can have a go on your MTB.
Maxxis have some great value tyres that can let you take your 29er MTB to a ‘cross race and have a crack with a faster wheel set-up. Take caution if you try to set these up tubeless, that’s not their purpose. But it’s a great way to make your MTB a little faster on twisty corners through grass and mud that make up many ‘cross courses. Of course, they’ll fit right onto a dedicated ‘cross bike too. The Locust is better for drier conditions, the Raze for looser and wetter courses. Price $39.95 upwards From bicorp.com.au
