Tru-Blu reunited with DJ at Lakeside
Dick Johnson and his famous Tru-Blu XD Falcon returned earlier this year to the scene of one of their biggest triumphs together, Brisbane’s Lakeside circuit. Tru-Blu added some nostalgic spice to Dick Johnson Racing’s 2014 V8 Supercar season launch and corporate ride day. It also proved to be a major drawcard for spectators in its own right. Its presence was courtesy of its custodians, Bowden’s Own Premium Car Care. “In one word, the day was ‘fantastic’,” Chris Bowden said. “Dick was certainly most eager to get back in it at his favourite race track and it was all very well received,” he said.
Johnson said he relished the opportunity to ‘relive’ a pivotal career moment: wrapping up the 1981 Australian Touring Car Championship at the circuit.
“I’ve got a lot weaker over the years and it hasn’t got power-steering, so it is very heavy on the steering, but it is still a good car to drive. We had a lot of success here in that car and not only here, but just about every track in Australia,” said Johnson.
The Bowden family’s efforts to return Tru-Blu to its 1981 Bathurst 1000-winning livery will be covered in detail in a future issue.
