Racing Australia is keeping its cards close to its chest over which model it will race in the 2018 Supercars Championship, as sister company Tickford began 2017 by announcing road car enhancements for Mustang.

“We haven’t decided on what (racing model) or what package it will be in 2018,” PRA marketing director Peter Trevaskis told speedcafe.com in January of the Melbourne team’s planning. “We have to work with the Penske boys [fellow Ford squad DJR Team Penske] to formulate a plan and work through some engineering stuff. It’s still in the development phase,” he says.

The Mustang is firming as favourite to replace the Falcon on track with Roger Penske keen to push ahead with the coupe as the Queenslandbased team’s 2018 mount. This despite Ford Australia’s stated disinterest in Supercars participation.

In the meantime, with over 6000 Mustangs delivered by Aussie Ford dealers in 2016 the enhancement business is an increasing focus for the Tickford operation.

It released the first of its personalisation packages for Mustang with powertrain offerings for both GT and EcoBoost variants. The 360 Power Pack for the V8-powered GT delivers 360kW of power and 585Nm of torque, a lift of 55kW and 55Nm. The pack includes cold air intake, an ECU recalibration, Tickforddeveloped quad catback exhaust, bespoke rear diffuser and is priced at $6990 including fitment. Each Mustang fitted with the pack will receive individually-numbered build plates and Tickfordenhanced badging. The 270 Power Pack for EcoBoost models produces 270kW/540Nm and features the same components as its GT equivalent, plus a calibration specific to the 2.3-litre EcoBoost powerplant. It costs the same.

The company also offers its catback exhaust and rear diffuser as standalone options.

Tickford’s Mustang Power Packs will soon be followed by ride and handling packages along with styling and interior options.

Tickford is also an authorised Ford Performance Parts dealer and is offering the option of a Ford Performance Mustang GT Supercharger Kit.

Tickford only works on cars that are already with their owners.
