Car: 1967 Ford XR Falcon GT Gallaher tribute Hometown: Meadows, Adelaide Hills, SA

What is it?

“It is a replica of one of eight cars ever built in this colour combination, as promotional cars for the Gallaher cigarette brand, which was the sponsor of the 1966 and 1967 Bathurst 500s, known as the Gallaher 500.”

When did you buy it?

“I bought it about four years ago, from Melbourne, where it still had South Australian registration.”

Why did you buy it?

“I had been looking for a long time for a genuine Ford Falcon XR GT, but they are very difficult to come by, as they are very popular, and this one was advertised on the internet. I ew over to Melbourne and saw it. It was in very good condition and good value at the asking price. So I bought it. I grew up in an era when these cars were rst made and I think they are by far the nicest looking Ford Falcon GT ever made.”

How does it go?

“It goes very well and is one of the nicest cars I have ever driven. It has a stroked 351ci Cleveland V8, four-speed top loader and 9-inch diff which make it a joy to drive.”

Anything you’d like to add?

“When I was 16 and driving a VC Valiant ute, I met someone who had just purchased an original XR GT and fell in love with it, as it was the rst muscle car ever built in Australia. It was the start of the muscle car era in Australia.”
