Our RHD ’67 Camaro

-

thought I would send some pics of my dad’s 1967 Camaro. He purchased the car in 1976 from the original owner, who as I understand it purchased it new from Pye Motors. The car is totally unrestored and has done only 105,000 miles. It is an RS/SS 350 auto tted with a factory tow bar.

Some of these conversions back in the day were a bit agricultural with chains and shafts used to keep the cost down and save moving some components.

My car appears to be along the lines of the Bill Buckle conversion with the original steering box cut into the R/H rail and lots of copper tube to extend the lines. The dash is all metal except for the plastic instrument cluster; the wipers and blinker stork are unchanged.

I’d be interested to learn more about Pye Motors, They were not a GM dealer, but an upmarket car yard with two locations, one in Church Street, Parramatta, the other on Parramatta Road at Haber eld. Maybe your readers may be able to help with more information and whether they did conversions or outsourced to Buckles?

Many years ago I attended a swap meet at Bankstown and purchased a heap of photos and brochures that were part of a deceased estate of a motoring writer by the name of Naylan. I grabbed the stuff that interested me, including two photos of a brand new 1967 RS Camaro, Queensland rego PHP-555.
