Moffat Falcon XY GT-HO – 1973 ATCC
By rights, Allan Moffat ought to have won the ATCC in his Boss Mustang. After all, it was effectively a works American Trans-Am Ford, and arguably technically well ahead of anything home grown. It’s therefore something of an anomaly that Moffat’s first touring car championship win instead came in a Falcon XY GT-HO Phase III hastily upgraded from Series Production to the new Group C rules. The Group C HO was only ever a stop-gap measure while the factory team readied three new XA Hardtops for the enduros, but the XY did the job – after some titanic battles with Brock’s XU-1.
