Australian Muscle Car

“A fter I read your article about Bob Jane’s mighty Camaro in issue #106 I dug out some old photos from Warwick Farm in 1973 where Jane and Moffat went at it hammer and tongs,” writes Graeme, whose father was a scrutineer for both the AARC and the ARDC. “What a thrill to stand so close to these cars... you could feel the ground shake as they rumbled by! In the other two photos you see a younger version of me with both Jane and Moffat. As we know, Moff had the reputation for sometimes being a bit icy in those days, but when I was asking for Bob’s autograph [ ED: Note the autograph book and pen in

young Graeme’s hand], he wanted to have a bit of chat and my Dad took the photo. Skivvies with a V-neck jumper must have been the fashion of the day. Of course, I don’t remember what he said; I was too awestruck, but I remember him as a really nice guy. It’s a truly great memory for me, of course. In more recent years I was able to ask both Jane and Moffat to sign copies of these photos at the Muscle Car Masters. It was still a great thrill for me all these years later. I’m still just an awestruck kid at heart.” Note Mal Ramsay’s long lost HQ Holden Repco V8 (the subject of MIA stories in issues #12 and #13) ahead of the Coke Mustang.
