Australian Muscle Car

Out of Action

-

Some muscle cars are bought by loving owners who pamper them like members of the family. Other muscle cars, though, aren’t so lucky. Some get stolen, smashed or thrashed. Some get parked and lost under a layer of dust in an old shed, others get left outside to brave the elements and slowly rust away. Sad, but true. We eyeball plenty of beautifully maintained and/or fully restored muscle classics in AMC, but as serious car pervs we have to admit there’s few things more intriguing – or exciting – than spotting an old classic in a paddock, or a shed, or under a shady tree, that’s seen better days and in need of some TLC. Some are beyond saving, but they all have a story to tell.

So, get out your cameras and start snapping some old muscle cars you come across in your travels that are de nitely Out of Action, or close to it.

We don’t want to know where they are and we won’t be publishing speci c locations, because above all we must respect people’s privacy. Please note: we don’t publish images we suspect involved the act of trespassing. We just want to see some good, clean pics of these forgotten cars and short personal stories to go with them.

For a chance to win, send your entries to amceditorial@ chevron.com.au or by post to Locked Bag 5555, St Leonards, NSW 1590.

This issue’s Out Of Action winner will receive thisw beaut 1:18 scale muscle car model from Classic Carlectables. AMC will contact this issue’s winner soon with further details. So, keep sending in those great photos and short stories for your chance to win!

 ?? ?? Hi all,
Spotted a bit of an auto graveyard in a backyard of suburban Perth. Three two-door LJ Toranas (sorry, only got two in the pic!) a HG/HT ute, a couple of Commodores and a Volvo. There was another really early Holden tucked away, too, but I could only get glimpses. All looked salvagable, I would think. Lucky for me Toranas aren’t my thing; if these were XA/XB two-doors I would have been knocking on that door quicksmart! Good to know there are still gems out there waiting to be found.
Cheers
Dave

 ?? ?? Here’s a Torana for your Out of
Action section, and also a TVR Tuscan. I remember as a high school kid seeing this for sale on Invermay Road in Launceston Tasmania. I used to go and look at it; I just loved the aggressive shape! That was 25 years ago! The owner is a top bloke who purchased it from that car yard and drove it until it stopped. For sale for the right price...

?? ?? While cycling a trail in outer Melbourne, my son and I came across what looks like a Torana SS hatchback. It appears to be an abandoned speedway project. Cheers, Steve

 ?? ?? Hi AMC
First of all I love the Out of Action section. My partner and I love finding old cars, especially Holdens.
We heard about this place where cars were put to rest after not making it all the way across the old Eyre Highway in past years. We planned a trip to go there and photograph all the old cars and buildings, which we did two months ago. My passion is photography and old Holdens.
Thank you
Tom & Robyn
