Clinton Jag
Iam Gary Walker and know the car [the white John Clinton Jaguar] that featured in Whaddayaknow in issue #106 very well.
The car was never raced at Bathurst, but came very close, but due to some sponsorship issues did not enter.
I then sold the car to the General Manager of one of Australia’s leading banks, who asked for the car to be converted to a hot road car, which I did with minor conversions to brake pads. I also softened the suspension.
We were requested to t a baby capsule and anchor points in the back between the rollbar. The General Manager’s wife collected the car from my Jaguar dealership, Gary Walker Jaguar, on Milperra Road, Milperra in Sydney. We strongly advised against the collection by his wife as the Jag was a monster to drive on the road.
In high heels, she collected the car after a brief run down on the aggressive clutch and large cams, so plenty of RPM to get it from stationary position. She went down Milperra Road sideways; she knew what she was doing! Her driving got a cheer from the entire workshop. Our jaws were all on the ground.
After about 12 weeks being housed in an underground carpark in their corporate city office, the car was stolen and never heard or seen again.

ED: Thanks for that background and story Gary. We have received no positive leads on this Group A Jag’s whereabouts today and only one other email on the topic, from a chap who wished to remain anonymous. He explained that the bank in question sponsored another Group A XJS racer at Bathurst in 1986, so it seems this bank’s big boss wanted a road car to match!
