Car: 1974 XB Falcon GT sedan Hometown: Mornington Peninsula, Victoria

What is it?

“It’s a Mulberry-coloured 1974 XB Falcon GT sedan.”

When did you buy it?

“I purchased it in 2011. It had been restored to concourse condition by Travis Nuttall in Perth. This car had won its class at the GT Nationals that year and after all this time I cannot fault the car. Except, maybe, for some trouble now and then locating

rst with the Toploader’s agricultural linkages. Oh, and it did break down on the Monash Freeway in peak hour traffic the day I brought it home due to a loose coil wire – fresh build teething problem – which was a little embarrassing, but it has not missed a beat since.”

Why did you buy it?

“I had owned a modi ed 1973 XB coupe for 16 years and although I loved that car I always wanted a GT and I wanted it just like it left the factory. My Dad and older brother owned a V8 XB Falcon, a ZB, ZG and ZH Fairlanes when I was growing up and we often went to the races at Lakeside and Surfers Paradise to watch Allan Moffat, which is why I love Fords.”

What do you know about its history?

“The car was sold new in Geraldton, WA and its only option is front quarter windows, but it did score the US big port engine.”

How does it go?

“The entire car is all stock and matching numbers but does have a mild cam and roller rockers so pulls quite nicely. It is a sunny day cruiser which is great near my wife Sue and my home on the Mornington Peninsula. It has never seen any rain, so does not come out much in Victoria’s weather but that is the price you pay if you want to keep concourse condition. The car also won second in its class at the 2015 GT Nationals and is as good as the day it won in 2011.”

Anything you’d like to add?

“I am interested in contacting the original owner as I have got some questions, but have not had any success yet. If he is out there I can be reached via markw@expoconti.com”
