Gary Chick owns the Allan Grice/John Smith Commodore VB that nished seventh at Bathurst in 1980. But that’s not the only Commodore from that year’s Bathurst classic residing in the Chick family garage, because Gary’s wife, Karen, has the third-placed Paul Gulson/Ian

Geoghegan Commodore VB. The husbandand-wife VB/C Commodore combo also represents a reunion of the cars, because the Gulson machine actually started life as the spare Craven Mild Commodore. It was sold to Gulson mid-year when the team’s plans changed (the split with Bob Morris and an impending tie up with BMW meant that a second Commodore was surplus to the team’s requirements). While Karen’s car still awaits restoration (to its 1980 Bathurst specs), it will be a much simpler task than the Grice car as the ‘Stockton Coin & Bullion Exchange’ Commodore has managed to remain largely unmolested over the years.
