Dulux Rally

-

Included on the packed support card were some six-lap sprints for competitors in the Dulux Rally. This was a marathon 6500km event on the eastern sea board that included rallying, hillclimb competition and road racing. The previous day the event had stopped off at the nearby Silverdale hillclimb track, and the following Monday morning would set off in a rally from Tamworth in northern NSW up to Murwillumbah! The predominance of rallies on the event meant the eld was made up of rally-prepared cars - which made them somewhat ill suited to the demands of bitumen circuits like Oran Park (as the above pic of Lionel William’s Monaro GTS 350 shows). Colin Bond topped the eld at the Oran Park ‘leg’ of the event in his Holden Dealer Team Torana XU-1 (below), while Kevin Bartlett squeezed everything he could out of his Sinclair Ford-entered Ford Capri V6.
