The MOFF 302

-

There are retro liveries, and there are retro liveries. But it’s hard to think of any recent Supercars retro-round or Bathurst 1000 retro livery that’s even on the same lap as this one – and this car isn’t even a Supercar.

If one is going to go to the trouble of doing a retro livery, and one’s racecar is a Ford Mustang, then Allan Moffat’s Trans-Am Boss Mustang 302 is a good place to start.

But when one just happens to be the son of Allan Moffat, and one’s car is a current-day Trans-Am Ford Mustang, well…

For what it’s worth, with its simple red colour scheme uncluttered by too many sponsors’ names, and those the big, bold number nines in italics on the doors, we think Allan Moffat’s Boss 302 Trans-Am Mustang is still the bestlooking car ever to contest the Australian Touring Car Championship (let’s face it, the low-slung Kar Kraft built thoroughbred Ponycar would look good in bare metal).

James Moffat was set to make his National Trans Am Series debut in the Garry Rogers Motorsport ‘MOFF 302’ Mustang at Sandown on September 17-19, the Melbourne circuit was where Allan Moffat rst raced the Boss 302 in Australia 52 years earlier. With the covid-19 pandemic having put paid to that meeting, he’ll instead run the car at Tailem Bend on October 15-17.
