BMW water injection

In the early ‘80s racing legend Frank Gardner approached the McGees and, aware of Hedley’s experience with water injection, asked them to build a system for the John Player-sponsored BMW 318 turbo sports sedan then driven by Allan Grice. The high-boost, high-horsepower engine was detonating on the racing fuel required by CAMS. Chris McGee did all the calculations and built a water injection system for the BMW, and also a water/ methanol blend version – which CAMS promptly outlawed! The JPS team still won a lot of races.
