Sigma 40mm f1.4 DG HSM Art
WINNER OF THE Best
D-SLR Prime Lens award in the 2019 TIPA Awards, the Sigma 40mm f1.4 DG HSM Art has been designed and built to match the performance characteristics of a high-end cine lens. In particular, this means maintaining a consistent image quality across the entire frame, even when the camera is tilting or panning.
The 16-element optical construction includes a total of three ‘FLD’ (‘F’ Low Dispersion) types and three SLD (Special Low Dispersion) types which collectively correct for axial chromatic aberration and magnification chromatic aberration to the limit. Distortion is corrected to just one percent or lower, and a sagittal coma flare is corrected to the limit. The result is superior image quality characteristics across the frame area, and sufficient resolution for 8K video recording.
An updated control algorithm for Sigma’s HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) autofocusing drive improves both speed and accuracy. The minimum focusing distance is 40 centimetres. A nine-blade diaphragm produces smoother, cleaner-looking out-of-focus effects.
Externally, the 40mm f1.4 DG HSM Art has a fully weather-sealed construction with a special coating on the exposed surfaces of the front and rear elements to help better repel moisture and grease.
The choice of mounts is for Nikon, Canon, L-Mount (i.e. Leica, Panasonic Lumix S and Sigma), Sigma SA and Sony.
