Even if you can’t get out much yet, food photography is something you could explore and here’s all the inspiration you’ll need. The annual Pink Lady® Food Photographer Of The Year is the premier competition celebrating of the art of food photography and filmmaking. There are some very tasty shots among this year’s winners.

Apowerful and emotional photograph, titled After Exodus, taken by Bangladeshi photographer K M Asad, has won the overall prize in the Pink Lady® Food Photographer Of The Year 2020, the world’s premier celebration of the art of food photography and filmmaking. The picture was taken in the vast Rohingya refugee camp that's home to over one million people in Cox’s Bazaar, Bangladesh. Poignantly, the camp has now been placed in lockdown in an attempt to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

“This moving image really speaks to our times,” says Caroline Kenyon, founder and director of the

Awards. “The world is in the grip of Covid-19 and normal life, whatever that may be, has stopped for all of us. These Rohingya refugee children remind us of the fragility of life, that our need for food for survival connects us all around the world. We are all the same.”

Due to the Covid-19 lockdown in the

United Kingdom, for the first time since the competition’s inception in 2011, the Awards presentation evening was held online. Winners were announced by legendary musician and cheese-maker, Alex James, in a live streamed event which was watched by an audience across the globe, including celebrities from the food and photography world.

“The standard was exceptional,” says Phil Turnbull, CEO of APAL, parent company of Pink Lady®, and headline sponsor of the Awards since 2011. “There were nearly 9,000 entries from over 70 countries – this competition inspires across the world. It is a truly global coming together of talent.”

Australian photographer Chloe Dann achieved a second placing in the Production Paradise Previously Published category with her photograph called Tough To Swallow. The Strain Of The Cupcakes by Natalie Nowotarski earned a highly commended award in the Marks & Spencer Food Portraiture category, while Mitch Payne also collected a highly commended award in the Food Film Shorts category for his video 25°s – Tasmania.
