Fujifilm Updates X Mount UltraWide Zoom
The X mount 10-24mm f/4.0 wide-angle zoom (equivalent to 15-36mm) has proved popular with users of Fujifilm’s APS-C format mirrorless cameras, but being a comparatively early model, it was ready for an update.
The new version – now called the Fujinon XF 10-24mm f/4.0 R OIS WR – incorporates a number of significant improvements, starting with a weather-sealed construction that also allows for shooting in subzero temperatures down to -10 degrees Celsius. Given all the higher-end X series camera have the same level of weather protection, this corrects the limitations of the earlier model. Overall, the new lens has a slimmer and more compact design, plus it’s also 25 grams lighter than before, now weighing 385 grams.
There’s now a proper aperture control collar with a lock for the ‘A’ (auto) position. The minimum aperture setting is f/22. A new, more advanced gyro sensor has been added to the optical stabilisation, extending the correction for camera by one stop to 3.5 stops. In conjunction with the IBIS system in the X-T4 and X-S10, the correction range is up to 6.5 stops.
The optical construction is unchanged from before and employs 14 elements in 10 groups, including four aspherical types and four with extra-low dispersion characteristics. The aspherical elements reduce spherical aberration, field curvature and distortion, while the extralow dispersion types correct for chromatic aberration to enhance corner-to-corner sharpness. The XF 10-24mm f/4.0 has an internal focusing group driven by a highprecision drive for speed and accuracy. The minimum focusing distance is 24cm. The screwthread filter fitting is 72mm.
The Fujinon XF 10-24mm f/4.0 R OIS WR zoom is priced at $1,749. For more information visit www.fujifilm.com.au
