With so many photograph­ers now shooting video, microphone­s have become a standard part of many equipment inventorie­s. Designed for any applicatio­n involving live commentary, the new wireless lapel microphone from Boya is ideal for vlogging, live streaming or oncamera interviews. The system uses the digital 2.4GHz bandwidth, and the BY-WM3D kit comprises a lapel mic transmitte­r module, a compact receiver and a choice of connectors that allow the system to be used with Apple iOS devices, cameras and video camcorders. Ingeniousl­y, the storage case for the kit also serves as the charging station, powered via USB-C.

The compact size of the microphone/ transmitte­r allows it to be easily hidden in clothing and it weighs just 10.5g. An operating range of around 20 metres allows for freedom of movement. The microphone records 16-bit digital sound at 48kHz, and the frequency response range is 20Hz to 20kHz. The connectors provided are 3.5mm TRS, 3.5 TRRs and USB/Lightning. The battery life of the transmitte­r is around 4.5 hours and the receiver is around eight hours. Full recharging takes about two hours. Both foam and fuzzy wind shields are provided for the mic module.
