New Olympus Gets Back To Business With Wide PRO Zoom
Now operating as OM Digital Solutions, Olympus has launched its first product under its new owners. The M.Zuiko Digital ED 8-25mm f/4.0 PRO has an effective focal range of 16-50mm, making a versatile lens suitable for numerous applications. It has a weather-sealed construction which includes insulation to allow for shooting in subzero temperatures down to -10º Celsius. There’s also a fluorine coating on the exposed surface of the front element to help better repel grease and moisture.
As with all the Olympus PRO series lenses, the 8-25mm has the push-pull ‘MF Clutch’ arrangement for quick switching between autofocusing and manual focusing. There’s also the multi-function ‘L-Fn’ button.
On the inside, the optical construction comprises 16 elements in 10 groups, including no fewer than eight special types to counter distortion, comatic aberration and chromatic aberrations while also optimising the uniformity of both sharpness and brightness. Olympus’ ZERO Coating multicoating helps minimise ghosting and flare. Focusing is performed via a linear motor for smoothness, and the minimum focusing distance of 23cm is maintained across the focal range.
The new zoom weighs in at 411g and is 88.5mm in length. It accepts 72mm diameter screwthread filters.
The M.Zuiko Digital ED 8-25mm f/4.0 PRO is available in Australia now priced at $1,599.
