OM System Kicks Off With New PRO Series Prime
The first product to bear the new OM System branding – which replaces Olympus – is the M.Zuiko Digital ED 20mm f/1.4 PRO prime (equivalent to 40mm). Joining the expanding PRO series of highperformance M.Zuiko Digital lenses, the new 20mm has an 11-element construction that now uses fewer than eight special types to optimise sharpness and correct for various aberrations. These comprise one ‘Super ED’ type and three ‘ED’ types – all with extra-low dispersion characteristics to minimise chromatic aberrations – two ‘Super HR’ types (with a high refractive index) and a pair of aspherical elements. ‘ZERO’ multi-coating is employed to minimise internal reflections and hence reduce ghosting and flare. OM Digital Solutions says the optical design has the necessary resolution to support the ‘High Res Shot’ mode in OM-D cameras, such as the E-M1X, which captures multiple exposures via pixel shifting to deliver ultra-high resolution images.
Weighing just 247g and measuring 62mm in length, the M.Zuiko Digital ED 20mm f/1.4 PRO has a weather-sealed external construction and is also insulated to allow for operation in subzero temperatures down to -10º Celsius. A fluorine coating has been applied to the exposed surface of the front element to help repel moisture and grease. Autofocusing is performed via a stepper-type motor and the minimum focusing distance is 25cm.
The M.Zuiko Digital ED 20mm f/1.4 PRO is available in Australia now priced at $1,199. For more information visit https://olympusimaging.com.au
