5 ESSENTIAL ADD-ONS

You’ve chosen your budget and picked your Bluetooth record player. Now, how do you get the best sound out of them?

-

1 1 AUDIO PRO ADDON T3

What an excellent name for a speaker. This makes the perfect companion to the affordable Audio-Technica AT-LP60XBT but also does some justice to the Pro-Ject Essential III’s more refined sound. It’s a very cute looking speaker too, a textbook example of Scandinavian style. $399, audiopro.com

2 AUDIO-TECHNICA ATH-M50XBT

Get into some deep listening with Audio-Technica’s great-sounding and ever-so-comfortable, over-ear headphones. This is the Bluetooth version of a longstanding wired favourite, and you’d be hard pressed to tell the difference (see p78). $299 audio-technica.com

3 KEF LSX

A no-compromise way to listen to any of these turntables (though it’s best with aptX support), this compact pair of stereo wireless speakers is one of the audio sensations of 2019. It’s also compatible with Spotify and Tidal, with Apple AirPlay 2 coming, for when you tire of turning records. $1,695, kef.com

4 NAIM UNITI ATOM

The Cambridge Audio Alva TT uses aptX HD Bluetooth to beam music at greater than CD quality – 24-bit/48kHz hi-res, to be precise. There are not that many compatible speakers or receivers for this audiophile-grade wireless codec yet, but the good news is that Naim’s astonishing Uniti Atom amplifier is. $4,250, naimaudio.com

5 5 iFI XDSD

Use your much-loved wired headphones with these turntables thanks to iFi’s Bluetooth-connected portable DAC. Switch it to headphone mode and it can power some really sensitive stuff. You can also use it as a bridge with your amp. $589, ifi-audio.com
