MUDGEE

Food and FINE WINE, eclectic art and SPECTACULAR LANDSCAPES, the Mudgee region is full of wonder, any WHICH WAY you look at it.

-

A WINE REGION THAT offers great food and a leisurely change of pace. Perfect for an easy weekend getaway, you might think. True this may be, but there’s actually much more to Mudgee than many of us realise. With all the different elements that make up the area, there’s a good reason to consider making that quick weekend getaway just a little bit longer.

A natural beauty...

The landscape of the Mudgee region is secretly spectacular, in a most calm, understated way. In order to really see its beauty and appreciate the exclusive, oneof-a-kind gems that it has tucked away, take a helicopter ride towards Rylstone. From that upper vantage point, there’s an otherworldliness to Mudgee’s sparse fields, where things seem to exist for the sole purpose of your wonder upon discovery. Random yet purposeful lines can be seen engraved on the earth, creating accidentally beautiful drawings in nature reserved only for the eyes of those looking from above. The vastness of the land, the mountainous topography, and the region’s most stunning natural compositions are worth the ride.

An eclectic mix...

You don’t have to look very far beyond Mudgee’s wine country exterior to discover some of the many elements that lie within. The bold, expressive paintings of contemporary Australian artist, WarBëhr, can be found dotted around numerous establishments in the area, including fine dining restaurant Pipeclay Pumphouse and the character-filled luxury cottages at Peppertree Hill. See the vintage motorcycle collection by Robert Stein while visiting his winery, or head to 29 Nine 99 in the charming heritage town of Rylstone for both a visual and edible feast by owner and artist Na Lan. Her handmade Chinese dumplings, selection of teas and collection of purchasable pieces transport you across the world, all through a small portal nestled just 50 kilometres south-east of Mudgee.

A place to taste...

There’s no question that Mudgee has more to offer than just wine, but its vineyards are its unabashed flagbearer for a reason. A trip to the region deservedly calls for exploring at least a couple of its many cellar doors. For a backdrop of rolling green hills and blemishfree blue skies, visit Logan Wines and enjoy a wine tasting on its balcony. If you’ve made your way to Rylstone, introduce yourself to the De Beaurepaires and enjoy some of their expertly produced French-style wine. The family’s picturesque estate is almost as delightful as the family members themselves. When the sun’s about to set though, the cellar door of Lowe Wines will capture your attention, because alongside its beautiful wines and romantic entrance, you’ll find The Zin House – a warm and homely hatted restaurant with menus inspired by the surrounding classic hillscapes and kitchen gardens. It only makes sense to balance out your fine wine intake with equally fine food, right?
