THE LOCAL HOTEL
Fun fact: the three couples who took over this corner pub from a bunch of AFL footballers ran a light-hearted House Rules-style competition to see who could do the best hotel room renovation to a set budget. As a result, each of the eight rooms is individually and creatively styled – artist Anya Brock is part of the crew and painted a huge elephant mural in her room (pictured). The watering hole and casual restaurant is a hotspot for residents of all ages. The building dates to 1897 and is a mix of chesterfield armchairs, claret velvet couches, dim Edison globe lighting and dark wood floors. thelocalhotel.com.au
