What’s in a name?

In 1792, French explorers sheltered from a storm in a calm bay, naming it after the ship they were sailing, the Espérance, meaning hope.To the region’s Aboriginal people this area is Kepa Kurl, or ‘place where the water lies like a boomerang’.
