Burn the date into memory

Avon Valley Gazette - - NEWS -

THE City of Swan has extended restrictions on burning off due to unseasonable weather conditions causing a bushfire risk.

The restricted burning dates have been extended until June 14, with all burning prohibited without a permit.

Swan chief executive Mike Foley said burning dates had been adjusted due to dry conditions.

“Despite last week’s rain, this position is being maintained due to residual dryness. This decision is consistent with our neighbouring local governments,” he said.

The comments follow devastating bushfires in the Albany area last week, which started by burning on private land, exacerbated by unusual weather.

Burning without a permit carries a $ 250 penalty and court- imposed penalties can be upwards of $ 10,000.
