THE bone and tis­sue trans­plant head­quar­ters of PlusLife in Mid­land has been crowned best in­dus­trial build­ing in WA.

THE bone and tis­sue trans­plant head­quar­ters of PlusLife in Mid­land has been crowned best in­dus­trial build­ing in WA.

Bal­catta builder PS Struc­tures re­ceived the award in the $ 5- 10 mil­lion cat­e­gory at the Mas­ter Builders- Bankwest Ex­cel­lence in Con­struc­tion Awards on Satur­day.

The State Gov­ern­ment com­mit­ted $ 10 mil­lion in 2016 to build the workspace to re­place cramped fa­cil­i­ties in Ned­lands.

Award- win­ning ar­chi­tects Cameron Chisholm Ni­col de­signed the compa- ny’s first ‘ clean­room’ to in­clude a research lab­o­ra­tory and other fa­cil­i­ties linked to its her­itage- listed ad­min­is­tra­tion build­ing.

The award also ac­knowl­edged the clean­room de­sign ex­per­tise of Asia Pa­cific Con­sul­tants.

PlusLife man­ag­ing di­rec­tor Anne Cowie said the project was de­liv­ered on time and within bud­get.

“This is a wel­come and timely win as we pre­pare to launch our an­nual aware­ness cam­paign for DonateLife Week 2018 next week,” she said.

PlusLife treats pa­tients with spinal de­for­mi­ties, young peo­ple with bone can­cers and pa­tients with arthritic joint dis­ease and sporting in­juries. Last year, the com­pany sup­plied 634 peo­ple with bone and tis­sue trans­plants.

One de­ceased tis­sue donor has the po­ten­tial to im­prove the well­be­ing, sight and mo­bil­ity of up to 60 peo­ple through the do­na­tions of bones, ten­dons, corneas, heart valves and skin.
