A night at the Balonne Ballet
End-of-year concert sure to appeal to ballet lovers
AFTER months of hard work, local dancers are ready to put on the performance of their lives this Saturday night. The Balonne Ballet Association has been a treasured part of the community for more than 40 years and the company is intent on continuing its history of delivering a captivating show.
DANCING: The Balonne Ballet Association has been a treasured part of the St George community for 40 years and the troupe is set to steal the show once more on Saturday night.
The group will put on a show for all ages, with teacher Birrali Schefe anticipating a great evening.
“The show is the Four Seasons, so we do dances from each season,” Ms Schefe said.
“We’ll start in spring and take everyone through to winter.
“We have got from three year-olds to over 40-year-olds performing genres including ballet, jazz, tap and hip-hop.”
Edrine Keegan has been travelling out to the region to run the BBA for some time but, due to unforeseen circumstances, her daughter Ms Schefe has had to take the wheel.
“Mum drives down here every two weeks and does rehearsals but she hasn’t been down for a month so we’ve put most of it together in two weeks,” Ms Schefe said.
“So we’ve been working at it for the last couple of months but the most intense part has been the last two weeks.”
Despite the altered preparation plans, Ms Schefe is confident the students will pull together and put on a spectacular performance.
“I know it’s going to go great because the kids are so dedicated and they’re working so hard,” she said.
The concert will be held at the Balonne Cultural Centre from 6.30pm Saturday.
Tickets, which are available at Bargain 4 U or at the door, cost $10 for adults, $5 for students and a gold coin for pre-schoolers.
Everyone is invited to attend an event that celebrates and acknowledges the dance culture that has shaped the Balonne district for the past 40 years.
