POLICE were called to Bungil Creek on Sunday morning after a car was found bogged in the water.

At 7.47am, police located the 2000 red Volkswagen Golf stuck in Bungil Creek near the intersection of Arthur and George streets.

An 18-year-old probationary driver from Yuleba was found inside the vehicle and taken to Roma Police Station.

Acting Senior-Sergeant Chris Keenan said a drinkdriving offence was believed to have happened in the early hours of Sunday.

“A further breath test at 11am indicated the driver had a blood-alcohol reading of 0.11, which is double the (full licence) legal limit,” Sgt Keenan said.

Connor Simpson came across the situation on Sunday morning.

“We were on our way to work at 7.10am and saw the car and went over to check it out,” Mr Simpson said.

“We were then turning around to leave when we realised someone was in the car.”

Sgt Keenan highlighted the dangers of drink driving and how easily the incident could have turned tragic.
